Data & API

Every record the tracker publishes is available as read-only JSON. It is the same data the pages are built from — the archive, the CFR part pages, the calendar and the feed are all rendered from these files, so they cannot disagree with them.

Free, no key, no account. There is nothing to sign up for and no key to send. The API is read-only. Please be reasonable about request volume, and cache what you fetch — the data changes only when a rule is published. This is not legal advice, and every record links to the official Federal Register document it came from.

What is in the dataset

20 archived rule documents, published 2026-01-20 to 2026-09-29, covering 122 distinct CFR parts (“parts” = the CFR units the source documents cite). Each record is one final rule, proposed rule, or other rulemaking document issued by the U.S. Department of Education and published in the Federal Register.

GET /api/parts.json

The per-CFR-part index. 122 parts, each with the rules that cite it and its related list — the parts cited by the same rules, ranked by real co-occurrence. Those edges are the same ones rendered in each part page’s “Parts commonly cited together” block and its JSON-LD, so the machine-readable relationship and the human-visible one cannot disagree.

GET /feed.xml — RSS 2.0

The full archive as a standard feed, for any RSS reader. No account needed.

Per-part pages and feeds

Each part has a page at /part/<slug> and, for the 30 ED-substantive parts, its own RSS feed at /part/<slug>.xml. Example: https://edtracker.novusautomations.com/part/2-cfr-part-1.xml. The part listing in api/parts.json carries each part’s slug, url and feed_url.

Cite the dataset

If you use these records, please link back to the tracker. A plain citation:

ED Rule Tracker. “U.S. Department of Education rulemaking archive.” Retrieved 2026-10-03. https://edtracker.novusautomations.com/api/items.json

The canonical human-readable URL is https://edtracker.novusautomations.com/data. Every record also carries a source_url pointing at the Federal Register document it was built from — cite that for the underlying rule; cite the tracker for the structured record.
